As mentioned earlier in the Fringe Style for Fall post, I’m having a bit of fringe fascination. Today’s post is for incorporating a hint of fringe in your look, from the bottom up. I bring you the fringe sock. They aren’t so much of a statement that makes you feel like a Stevie Nicks backup singer, but just enough to make someone say “Oh damn girl, look at you” !

Make your own Fringe trim socks

These are pretty easy and straightforward to make, and you won’t need a lick of sewing skills to get them done either. Although if you are skilled in sewing, they will probably hold up better over time.

If you are NOT using elastic fringe trim, first measure your ankle and cut a piece of cardboard to length. Fold it in half and use this to overstretch the sock opening before gluing on the fringe. It will also protect you from gluing the opening shut. If you are using elastic trim, then using a cardboard piece cut to size of the opening will be enough (see step 1).

I used a fabric glue called Liquid Stitch. Cut the appropriate length of trim for one sock after measuring your ankle and double it. Doubling it is important because one layer won’t be “fringy” enough, you’ll want it a little denser. Apply a thin line of Liquid Stitch to one side of the sock and apply your fringe. Turn over and continue to the other side. Once you’ve finished one pass apply more glue to the top edge of the applied trim and wrap around again to double up the layers.

Binder clips work perfect for holding the fringe in place while allowing glue to dry for at least 24 hours. Remove the cardboard carefully, as you don’t want the glue to dry while the sock is overstretched or it won’t go back.

When dry you can rock your socks with your heels or booties of choice. Only slightly obsessed, I also have some in grey.
